Reliance Industries acquired the soft drink brands Campa from Pure Drink Group as part of its strategy for scaling up the FMCG industry, CNBC TV-18 reported August 31, citing sources.

The acquisition of Campa could put the company in direct competition with Pepsi and Coca-Cola in terms of beverages.

These brands will likely be relaunched in the coming year.

This acquisition is announced just days after Isha Ambani, director at Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd., announced that the company's retail arm would be entering the FMCG sector.

"I am thrilled to announce that we will launch our fast-moving consumer products business this year. Ambani stated that the business's objective is to create and deliver affordable, high-quality products that meet every Indian's daily requirements.

Reliance Retail will compete with FMCG giants such as Hindustan Unilever and Nestle in this new venture. This industry is worth more than $110 billion.

"

Reliance Retail has an established presence in this segment with its private labels, which are sold at its grocery chain stores Reliance Smart and Reliance Mart as well as its online grocery portal JioMart.

The company's FMCG segment includes brands like Snac Tac noodles and Yeah!Colas. Private labels, which include the fashion and lifestyle segments, contribute 65 percent of the company's revenues.
